Biography

Traditional Tattoo Artist in San Diego I’m Chris Cockrill, a proud resident artist at Remington Tattoo in the heart of North Park, San Diego. This vibrant neighborhood has been my artistic home for over 15 years. My journey into tattooing started back in 1998 at Fine Line Tattoo in Houston, Texas where I immersed myself in the craft as an apprentice. I gained mastery of traditional American motifs and techniques under the guidance of talented mentors. After years of experience, I developed a bold, classic American traditional tattoo style of my own. In 2003, I moved to my current home in San Diego, connecting with the tight-knit community of artists continuing the city’s long tattoo tradition. I spent my early years perfecting traditional styles (American traditional, Japanese and black and grey) at Avalon Tattoo 2, one of North Park’s most respected shops. Throughout travels across America and overseas, I expanded my knowledge, learning from gifted tattooers in the US, Australia, and Asia. But San Diego’s culture, surf, and sun have always been my inspiration for timeless design. While traditional tattooing is my deepest passion, I also enjoy creating one-of-a-kind designs using fine line, black and grey, and neo-traditional techniques. The diversity of my portfolio reflects both mastery of traditional motifs and versatility. Whether crafting minimalist script tattoos, realistic black and grey portraits, or conceptual blackwork pieces, I infuse elegance and innovation into every style. My aim is to collaborate with each client to design the tattoo that will not only look incredible, but carry personal meaning for years to come. After several years at Avalon, I brought my locally-rooted talents across multiple styles to Remington Tattoo. As a resident artist, I take pride in creating vibrant custom tattoos that honor the classic American and Japanese traditional motifs I’ve studied throughout my career, while also exploring new ground with each unique client.
